This week on the podcast, Tiffany Gibson, founder of New Nurse Academy, is joining me to discuss how she uses the principles of the Belief Tank Coaching Method ™ to revolutionize the nursing industry.
When I met Tiffany two years ago, she wanted me to coach her in sales and marketing, but our journey quickly evolved into much more. In this interview, Tiffany walks us through her New Nurse Methodology.
Who is Tiffany Gibson and what is The New Nurse Methodology? [00:01:10]
Inspired by author and speaker Luvvie Ajayi, I describe myself as a professional troublemaker. I’m changing the nursing culture with the things I’m learning in your coaching cohort. I am incorporating human design and emotional intelligence into nursing and shaking things up.
How you do you incorporate The Belief Tank Coaching Method ™ into nursing [00:02:56]
There are multiple components to learning. As an educator, I understand that when you’re teaching adults, you can’t just give them a textbook and expect competency. The strategic and tactical strategies are what connected to me, which I use when I mentor nurses.
What has been your experience with attracting clients? How do you deal with clients that don’t match your vibe? [00:13:55]
In the beginning, I was doing things to make money because everybody else said I needed to do them. I realized that I didn’t like some of the people I was working with -I learned to use qualifying factors, and to attract my dream clients, I had to like, know, and trust myself. Nowadays, I make sure that I’m relatable. Clients are attracted to me because they can see themselves in me, but I’m adding something different that they never heard before. I embody the New Nurse Methodologies. My clients can see me using my methods.
What is the journey of the Empowered Coach? [00:16:14]
A big part of the Journey of the Empowered Coach is being confident in your thoughts. That doesn’t mean that your beliefs won’t evolve but that a certain authenticity remains.
In every profession, some challenges are specific to People of Color. How do you help nurses cope with these challenges? [00:17:31]
Leadership is not a title or a position but a way of life, a personality, and certain character traits. I empower nurses by letting them know they can also make changes without necessarily having the alphabet soup behind their name. The higher you go up in nursing, the less melanated it is. Not being in positions of power is systematic and cultural -sometimes Black Women/ Women of Color feel like they don’t need to be in certain places. I’m showing them that they can embody leadership at any level.
What is the Great Unlearn, and why it’s time for nursing to evolve out of some of its outdated cultural and professional norms? [00:22:42]
The Great Unlearn is letting go of things that no longer serve you. It realizes that this mindset is not it! And it’s not going to carry me through. Specifically, within the nursing profession, there are times when evolution needs to occur, but for you to evolve, there are things that you have to shed.
Since incorporating The Belief Tank Coaching Method ™into your business, you’ve had clients knocking at your door. How did you make the shift into industry expert/influencer? [00:35:18]
I struggled with the Influencer title; this is something that I still need to unlearn [being able to accept that title]. I know that I’m making an impact. One of my future goals is to become a nursing theorist – the same way people quote Florence Nightingale, 200 years later, I want the same for me. I want to develop new nursing theories that they teach in nursing schools. I used to pitch clients and do proposals, and I don’t even do that anymore. People find me, and they pitch to me. I’m able to turn things down, too.
In the Belief Tank Coaching Method, we discuss the energetic codes of selling and showing up. In the interview, you can listen to me help reframe Tiffany’s thoughts around calling herself an Influencer.
Can you explain the physiology behind the energy we emit and what we should be doing to protect that energy?
Our nervous system sends electrical signals to our brains as human beings. We are vibrating and emitting energy as living things. I don’t understand why people don’t understand this because scientifically, we have paperwork to prove that we are electrically charged. The question is, how do you keep that aura and maintain it at a high level so that we are vibrating at the highest levels? This is how we tap into our genius. Tapping into human design is so important as a coach and leader.
Tiffany’s application of The Belief Tank Coaching Method ™ is a testament to how coaching practices can be used effectively in non-traditional industries. Tune into the Empowered Coach Podcast to learn more.
